Intense Battles and Military Buildups Escalate Inside Yemen Amid Maritime Tensions

The Houthis' renewed maritime escalation in the Bab al-Mandeb Strait has coincided with increased military activity and violent confrontations inside Yemen, particularly between government forces and the militia across several battlefronts.

Yemeni military sources reported that government troops recently seized control of several strategic mountain heights overlooking the western side of Harib district, located southeast of Marib province. These gains followed intense fighting with Houthi forces that resulted in casualties on both sides.

The sources added that the Southern Giants Brigades and units from the Saba Military Axis dispatched significant reinforcements to the frontline in Harib. Heavy and medium weapons were employed during the fierce clashes, which concluded with government forces securing the western highlands of the district and nearby positions.

According to the sources, the mountainous sites captured by government troops had previously served as launch points for Houthi drone attacks targeting the Giants Brigades, the Saba Military Axis, and Shabwa Defense forces stationed in Harib district.

On the previous Monday, four government soldiers were killed and six others wounded in a Houthi drone strike against a position of the Saba Military Axis in Harib. This attack triggered the escalation of confrontations between the two sides.

Meanwhile, government forces repelled a Houthi ground assault in the mountainous Mal'aq Pass, situated between Harib and Al-Jubah districts in southern Marib. Both sides have been heavily mobilizing troops across various fronts in this oil-rich province.

Simultaneously, the Houthi militia continues to deploy military vehicles and fighters to Al-Hazm district, the capital of Al-Jawf province bordering Marib to the north, as well as to the Al-Matoun and Al-Maraziq areas and the Qanaw front near the gathering point of Yemeni tribes in the Rayan area. There are concerns that the Houthis may impose a siege on tribal delegations participating in a broad tribal pledge ("Nakf Qabali") to demand redress for grievances inflicted by the militia against a woman.

These developments coincide with the Houthis' accelerated movements along the western coast overlooking the Red Sea, following the militia's announcement last Monday of a new phase of maritime escalation targeting neighboring countries.

Security reports indicate that the Houthis have begun transferring naval weapons, missile systems, and drone launch platforms from areas under their control to Hodeidah province in western Yemen, as well as parts of Hajjah, Al-Mahwit, and Dhamar provinces. These assets are being moved toward the mountainous regions of Taiz and Ibb as part of a military repositioning plan in preparation for a forthcoming round of naval operations.
