Iranian Navy Commander: Strait of Hormuz Part of Our Strategic Geography

Iranian Navy Commander Shahram Irani said on Wednesday that the Strait of Hormuz is "part of our strategic geography."

According to local media reports, Irani emphasized that his country will not relinquish control over "Hormuz," considering the strait a "source of our strength and a pillar for ensuring our security and interests."

Last week, Iran presented a proposal to the United States to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and resume negotiations to reach a "final agreement," but US President Donald Trump directly rejected it.

At the beginning of this week, Trump announced that he expects talks with Iran to continue after rejecting Tehran's latest proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran put forward this diplomatic initiative at the UN General Assembly in New York, stating that it was delivered to the American side through Qatari intermediaries and would lead to reopening the "Hormuz" strait and ending hostilities in the region within seven days.

A source familiar with Washington-Tehran talks said Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with Qatari mediators in Doha on Tuesday evening and received the US response to a proposed seven-day confidence-building plan, which he will discuss in Tehran today, Wednesday.
