Iranian President Massoud Bezhakian Arrives in Pakistan for Official Visit Following US-Iran Agreement

President Massoud Bezhakian of Iran arrived in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, on Tuesday for an official visit. His trip follows an agreement reached between Iran and the United States, to which Pakistan played a mediating role.

At the Noor Khan Airbase, Bezhakian was welcomed by Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The Iranian delegation accompanying him included Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, according to the Pakistani newspaper Dawn.

Pakistani authorities stated that the discussions during the visit would focus on ongoing diplomatic efforts following the US-Iran agreement. The talks will also cover regional and international developments of mutual interest, as well as ways to expand cooperation in trade, energy, border security, people-to-people contacts, and regional connectivity.

The conflict between the United States and Iran caused widespread disruptions in global energy markets and pushed oil prices to record levels. This had significant economic repercussions for Pakistan, which relies heavily on energy supplies passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

During the approximately four-month-long conflict, Pakistan hosted several diplomatic meetings and consultations. Among these were peace talks held in Islamabad in April, involving a US delegation led by Vice President J.D. Vance.
