Israeli Fears... From Egypt?

Israeli security and media circles have expressed growing concern as the 2026 Civilization Eagles military drills between Egypt and China began.

They warned that deploying advanced Chinese fighter jets at Egyptian air bases represents a direct strategic challenge to Israeli air superiority and regional security balance.

The Israeli news platform Nativ Net stated that China and Egypt are participating in a large-scale military exercise titled Civilization Eagles 2026, raising Israeli concerns about the route stretching 6,000 kilometers from China to Egypt, taking nine hours of flight time—indicating long-range strike capabilities that alarm Tel Aviv.

The platform added that Israeli observers have noted with concern Chinese J-16 fighters from the Western Command’s 98th squadron en route to Egypt, supported by Y-20 refueling aircraft and accompanied by Z-20 helicopters, emphasizing this deployment marks the first of its kind for advanced Chinese fighter jets on the African continent and constitutes a qualitative challenge to the regional security environment.

It pointed out that this exercise, officially launched on August 22, 2026, and lasting until early September, represents, according to Israeli analysts, a dangerous leap in China’s ability to project power over long distances and a troubling deepening of Chinese military influence in the Middle East and North Africa, near Israel’s borders.
