Kuwait Denounces Violation of Sovereignty
In a statement released by the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the State of Kuwait expressed its deepest condemnation and denunciation of the Houthi targeting of an electrical facility serving the Noble Prophet’s Mosque in the sister Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The ministry firmly rejected the repetition of such despicable and cowardly attacks on civilian infrastructure.
Kuwait described these actions as a blatant violation of the Kingdom’s sovereignty, a flagrant breach of international law and international humanitarian law, and a provocation against the sentiments of Muslims worldwide. The statement highlighted this as a dangerous escalation in violating the sanctity of Islamic holy sites.
The Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry renewed its absolute solidarity with Saudi Arabia, pledging support for all measures taken to safeguard the Kingdom’s sovereignty, security, and the safety of its citizens and residents. It emphasized that the security of Saudi Arabia is an inseparable part of Kuwait’s security and that of the Gulf Cooperation Council states.
Bahrain Calls for UN Security Council Action
The Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs also voiced severe condemnation of the ongoing terrorist attacks launched by the Iran-backed Houthis against Saudi Arabia. Bahrain specifically cited the recent targeting of the Taybah electricity distribution station in Medina, which supplies power to the Noble Prophet’s Mosque.
Manama characterized the assault as a gross violation of international law, international humanitarian law, the United Nations Charter, and the OIC Charter. The ministry further labeled it a serious escalation within the context of repeated targeting of the Two Holy Mosques and Islamic sacred sites, noting it constitutes a provocation to Muslims globally.
Bahrain reiterated its call for the United Nations Security Council to assume its responsibilities and take a firm stance to halt the recurring Houthi attacks. These strikes target civilian assets and religious sanctities, terrorizing pilgrims, visitors to the Two Holy Mosques, and innocent civilians in Saudi Arabia. Manama urged the international body to hold the perpetrators accountable.
