French President Emmanuel Macron called on Friday for the Group of Seven countries to coordinate their actions to reduce fuel prices, at a time when US President Donald Trump is proposing that Europeans draw down their strategic diesel reserves and supports banning his country's exports of this commodity.

The Elysee Palace stated following a phone call between the French and American presidents that Macron "stressed that the G7 countries have a shared interest in acting in a coordinated manner, without imposing export restrictions."

The French presidency noted that Macron, who also communicated with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, "intends to convene a video conference of G7 leaders as soon as possible to ensure the coordination of measures to be taken."
