Macron Wears Sunglasses Indoors During Visit to Damascus
French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in Damascus wearing his pilot-style sunglasses indoors throughout his visit.
French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in the Syrian capital, Damascus, maintaining his pilot-style sunglasses even while indoors, where sunlight was not a factor.
Macron had previously been seen wearing the same sunglasses for three consecutive days.
This appearance revived memories of the controversy and attention that surrounded his use of these sunglasses a few months earlier during his participation in the Davos Economic Forum.
According to the French newspaper La Libre, close associates of the president explained initially that the reason for wearing the sunglasses was purely medical, following a bleed in one of the blood vessels in his eye. The situation drew humorous remarks at the time, notably from U.S. President Donald Trump, who sarcastically praised the "nice glasses" and referred to Macron as a "tough man."
It is noteworthy that Macron is the first Western leader to visit Syria since the overthrow of the Assad regime.
