NATO commits to bolstering defenses against threats, including drones, following a Russian drone crash on a residential building in southeastern Romania.

NATO has pledged to reinforce its defenses against all threats, including drones, after a drone crashed onto the roof of a residential building in southeastern Romania during a Russian attack on neighboring Ukraine overnight.
The alliance condemned Russia's recklessness and stated it will continue to strengthen its defenses against all threats, including drones, according to a NATO spokesperson cited by Reuters.
Romanian authorities reported that a drone fell on the roof of a 10-story residential building in the city of Galați, located in the southeast of the country. The incident caused an explosion and fire, resulting in injuries to two individuals. This occurred during a Russian attack on Ukraine on Friday night.
Romania is a member of both NATO and the European Union and shares a 650-kilometer land border with Ukraine.
On Friday, the Romanian Ministry of Defense stated that the country’s airspace has been violated by Russian drones 28 times since Moscow began targeting Ukrainian ports on the Danube River.
The drone crash on Friday marks the first time a drone has fallen in a populated area in Romania causing injuries. This event is expected to heighten tensions on NATO’s eastern flank amid allies' concerns about the conflict expanding beyond Ukraine’s borders.
