Netanyahu Orders Removal of Unlicensed Settlement Outposts in West Bank Amid U.S. Pressure

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued orders for the evacuation of unauthorized Jewish settlement outposts in parts of the West Bank, especially those located in Area B, amid mounting pressure from the U.S. administration, according to Israeli security officials.

The Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that around 100 unauthorized outposts currently exist in the West Bank, including 15 to 20 in Areas A and B. Officials quoted said the National Security Council issued clear directives for their evacuation, particularly those in Area B.

According to officials, Washington is concerned about the expansion of unauthorized settlements in areas where the Palestinian Authority exercises limited administrative authority. Netanyahu also instructed ministers to support army leaders and refrain from publicly criticizing them.

These developments coincide with Israeli security warnings of escalating threats in the West Bank, as security agencies say they thwart dozens of attacks weekly, including attempts carried out by local Palestinian cells. Iran and Hamas have also been accused of providing support and direction to these networks.

Israeli forces recently arrested five suspected militants planning a shooting attack, and discovered explosive devices during operations near Nablus.

With the approaching Jewish holidays, the military plans to reinforce its presence in the West Bank with at least two additional battalions, alongside raising alert levels and preparing for possible security escalation.

Israeli officials warn the situation could become more complex with upcoming Palestinian elections, amid fears that Hamas seeks to expand its influence, while the army prepares for large-scale maneuvers and potential escalation in the coming days.
