The "Nor'easter" storm system has triggered widespread disruption across major northeastern cities including New York, Boston, and Philadelphia. Authorities have issued urgent warnings regarding potential flooding and road closures as the weather event intensifies.

Severe Flooding Warnings Issued

The National Weather Service forecasted significant flooding along the mid-Atlantic coast, with high tides expected to persist through the weekend. Officials urged immediate preparation for substantial inundation in low-lying coastal zones, noting that roads, residences, and commercial facilities face a high risk of water submersion.

By Saturday noon, electricity supply had failed for more than 95,000 subscribers across New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Pennsylvania. The outage affected a broad swath of the region’s infrastructure as the storm made landfall.

Official Alerts and Coastal Risks

New York Governor Kathy Hochul indicated that the storm was tracking toward New York City’s coastal areas and Long Island. She cautioned residents that rainfall had already begun and stated, "Trust me, the worst is yet to come."

Hochul added that certain parts of Long Island could receive up to 15 centimeters of rain over the coming days, accompanied by waves reaching approximately six meters in height. In response to strong winds and the danger of falling power lines, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani advised the public to avoid non-essential travel.

Flight Cancellations and Airline Adjustments

Data from FlightAware confirmed that the storm led to the cancellation of hundreds of flights. Logan Airport in Boston alone accounted for 130 cancellations. Major carriers, including JetBlue, United, and American Airlines, issued travel alerts permitting passengers to modify their bookings without incurring additional fees.

The adverse weather conditions also prompted the United Nations to request that media organizations covering General Assembly meetings remove broadcasting equipment from around the headquarters in New York due to the severity of the winds.

Cultural Events and Regional Impact

Several cultural and musical events were canceled, including the Global Citizen and All Things Go festivals in New York, and the Oceans Calling festival in Maryland. Concerts by British singer Ed Sheeran near Boston were also called off.
