Oman and Iran Commit to Continued Dialogue on Strait of Hormuz Management

On Tuesday, Oman and Iran announced their intention to maintain dialogue concerning the management of the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing efforts to keep this vital waterway safe and open for international navigation.

A joint statement released by the official Omani news agency highlighted that both Muscat and Tehran insist all arrangements related to the Strait must fully respect the sovereignty and sovereign rights of the littoral states.

The two countries agreed to continue discussions through a joint working group aimed at reaching an agreement on the future management of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, according to the statement.

They reaffirmed their commitment to preserving the Strait as a safe maritime passage open to international navigation and stressed the importance of ongoing cooperation to enhance maritime safety, freedom of navigation, and regional stability.

The statement also indicated that Oman and Iran will engage with other littoral states in the region, as well as any relevant parties, to discuss the management of the Strait and associated costs.

In a diplomatic move, Iran dispatched an official delegation to the Sultanate of Oman to discuss navigation management arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz, a key strategic maritime corridor in the region.

Iran’s chief negotiator, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, announced via a Telegram post that an Iranian delegation traveled to Oman to explore joint efforts aimed at strengthening management arrangements for navigation in the Strait.

Qalibaf specified that the delegation includes several Iranian officials, among them Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, as part of diplomatic initiatives addressing navigation and maritime security in the region’s waterways.
