Over 70 killed in fighting between Yemeni forces and Houthis
More than 70 fighters died as Houthi forces tightened their siege on Taiz, according to government and military sources.
Fighting between Yemeni government troops and Houthi militants has resulted in the deaths of more than 70 individuals. The clashes occurred primarily in Taiz province, where Houthi forces have intensified their blockade on the provincial capital, a city overlooking the Red Sea.
Casualties reported by both sides
Government sources speaking to Agence France-Presse confirmed that 34 soldiers from their ranks were killed during the confrontations. Of these fatalities, 20 occurred in the Al-Mudabbirah district within neighboring Lahj province, while the remaining 14 deaths took place in the southern and western areas of Taiz.
In response, military sources affiliated with the Houthis stated that 39 of their fighters lost their lives. These casualties were recorded across the active fronts in both Taiz and the adjacent Lahj region.
