Pakistan Maintains Mediator Role Between US and Iran Amid Rising Tensions

The Pakistani government has initiated consultations regarding potential austerity measures in response to the ongoing conflict between Iran and the United States. Officials are evaluating a series of cost-cutting steps that could be implemented if tensions between the two countries intensify further.

According to sources cited by the Pakistani Express Tribune on Wednesday, the government is expected to decide on reinstating several administrative restrictions as part of its emergency plans.

Among the proposals under review is the reduction of the number of working days per week, although no final decision has been reached on this matter.

Additionally, the government is considering limiting the number of official vehicles and reducing gasoline and diesel consumption within government departments as part of the suggested austerity measures.

In a separate development, Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, who is on an official visit to Pakistan. During their meeting at the Prime Minister House earlier today, the prime minister affirmed Pakistan’s continued role as an impartial and sincere mediator and facilitator.

A press statement from the Prime Minister’s office noted that the Iranian Interior Minister met with the Pakistani prime minister on Tuesday at the Prime Minister’s residence in Islamabad, as reported by the Pakistani Associated Press.

During the discussion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep concern over the recent escalation in the Gulf region. He urged all parties to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could further destabilize the area.
