"We Take It Very Seriously": Rubio Reveals Iranian Plot to Target US Interests

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that Iran "has threatened to attack our interests around the world and we are taking these threats very seriously," noting that there will be consequences if American interests are subjected to any attack.

Rubio told Fox News that Iran's problem lies not with the country itself but with the regime that governs it. He also affirmed that the Strait of Hormuz is currently open and oil flows through it are approaching pre-conflict levels.

The US Secretary considered that Iran "wanted to use its arsenal to threaten the region and US forces and then move towards acquiring a nuclear weapon," according to his assessment, adding that if Iran possessed a nuclear weapon, it would close the Strait of Hormuz and impose fees on various countries for passage.

Rubio pointed out that a plot suspected of aiming to carry out an explosion near a British air base used by the United States bears the fingerprints of a "foreign party," without explicitly naming Iran.

He added: "It is clear that there are foreign party fingerprints in this matter," confirming he would not go into further details.

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that a Qatari mediator held a new meeting with the Iranian side in New York, during which ideas were presented regarding how to meet Tehran's conditions for proceeding with communications with Washington.

Araghchi explained that the meeting addressed "how to pave the way for achieving Iran's conditions and how these conditions can be implemented," noting that the Qatari mediator would present the discussed ideas to the American side, after which Washington's response would be conveyed back to Tehran.
