Russia’s Defense Ministry announced on Wednesday that its air defense units intercepted and destroyed 426 Ukrainian fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles during the previous night, according to a report by Sputnik.

The ministry stated in an official statement that between 8:00 p.m. Moscow time on Tuesday and 7:00 a.m. Moscow time on Wednesday, on-duty air defense forces engaged and eliminated the drones. The operation spanned multiple Russian administrative divisions.

Geographic scope of drone interceptions

The drones were neutralized over the territories of Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Oryol, Kaluga, Tula, Lipetsk, Voronezh, Tambov, Ryazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Volgograd, Rostov, Moscow Oblast, Krasnodar Krai, and the Republic of Crimea.

Russian accusations against Ukraine

The ministry reiterated its accusation that Ukraine employs “terrorist methods,” citing the use of attack drones and artillery fire directed at civilians and civilian infrastructure inside Russia.

The statement also referenced an earlier incident in which a drone strike hit two staff members at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
