Authorities in Iraq detained Alaa Samir Al-Jubouri, head of the Central Electricity Distribution Company, on multiple corruption charges.

Iraqi security forces arrested Alaa Samir Al-Jubouri, the director general of the Central Electricity Distribution Company, on Saturday, charging him with corruption and public fund misappropriation, according to the Iraqi News Agency.
A directive issued by the Iraqi Council of Ministers, published by the agency, appointed Mohammed Naama Salman as the acting director general of the company, replacing the detained Al-Jubouri.
Journalists and Iraqi activists circulated the arrest order, which indicated that the Rapid Response Force apprehended Al-Jubouri in the Mansour area, located west of Baghdad. Reports also mention the detention of the company's accounts manager.
Press sources reported that a team from the Iraqi Integrity Commission raided a farm owned by Al-Jubouri in the Saqlawiya area of Anbar province. This action followed Al-Jubouri’s confessions revealing the existence of a farm containing documents, cash, and assets described as "close to unbelievable."
The sources added that Al-Jubouri admitted to owning a large portfolio of real estate, including villas, houses, and residential apartments, as well as a building situated in one of Baghdad’s most prestigious neighborhoods.
Investigative teams from the Integrity Commission have conducted raids on several locations and properties linked to Al-Jubouri as part of ongoing inquiries.
This arrest comes shortly after the Integrity Commission announced a four-year maximum-security prison sentence for a general director in the Iraqi Ministry of Education, convicted of bribery.
The commission stated that the convicted official was removed from his position after demanding $50,000 to close investigative committees formed against a school principal.
