Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani accused Israel of supporting illegal armed militias in Sweida and warned that such actions risk igniting chaos across the region.

Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani today, Tuesday, accused Israel of supporting outlaw armed militias and warned of "the region catching fire with chaos."
Shibani stated during a joint press conference with the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas:
"The Israeli occupation continues to attempt to destabilize the Syrian interior from December 8, 2024, until today, through systematic shelling of infrastructure, occupation of new Syrian territories on the southern border, and practicing policies of displacement and arbitrary arrests against Syrian citizens."
He added: "The fate of dozens of Syrian citizens arrested by the Israeli occupation remains unknown to this hour."
Shibani affirmed that "Israel supports outlaw armed militias in the city of Sweida, providing them with weapons and money to execute an agenda of chaos in the region."
Shibani called on the international community "to put an end to these adventures that will ignite the region with chaos and return to the 1974 agreement, allowing UNDOF forces the space to implement it."
Shibani concluded: "We call on Israel to engage seriously with the negotiation track sponsored by the United States for a year and a half, which Syria has adhered to responsibly in order to reach an agreement that respects Syria's security and sovereignty."
