US President Donald Trump today, Thursday, called for strict measures against individuals who leak information related to national security during a campaign rally in Arizona.

Speaking at a rally in Bullhead City, Arizona, Trump said, "People who leak sensitive national security information should be shot."

Trump added, "In my opinion, leakers should be shot. To me, they are the scum of the earth; leakers are the scum of the earth."

Trump has long strongly criticized unauthorized disclosures of information to the media, and his administration has launched a tough crackdown on leaks, including issuing subpoenas forcing journalists to reveal their sources, a step condemned by advocates for freedom of expression protected under the First Amendment of the US Constitution.

Recent efforts included demanding officials surrender their phones upon entering the White House and issuing subpoenas to New York Times reporters in an attempt to identify the sources that provided them with information for reports on security flaws in the aircraft - presented as a gift from Qatar - which was scheduled to be used as Air Force One.

Trump's recent inflammatory remarks on the issue of information disclosure came in the context of his claim that details regarding US strikes targeting Iranian nuclear facilities in June 2025, including movements of US military aircraft, had been leaked.

Regarding those accused of leaking, Trump said: "They should go to prison and be shot."
