South Korea threatens legal action over illicit fuel exports to Russia
Seoul warns of legal measures if unauthorized shipments of South Korean fuel, including diesel, are confirmed to have reached Russia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in South Korea stated on Thursday that the government will pursue legal action should it be verified that fuel shipments were sent to Russia through illegal channels. This warning follows a media report based on an analysis of port records and vessel tracking data.
Verification status of exports
According to Reuters, the ministry clarified that it has not yet confirmed whether South Korean fuel products, specifically including diesel, were exported to Russia. The authorities remain in the process of verifying these claims before taking further steps.
Export control list exclusions
The ministry noted that certain products mentioned in a Guardian newspaper report, such as commercial jet fuel and diesel, are not currently included in South Korea’s export control list targeting Russia. This distinction highlights the regulatory framework governing these specific commodities.
