To support Ukraine.. Britain prepares to join European loan of $106 billion

The British government said on Sunday that it is preparing to enter negotiations to join the European Union loan to Ukraine worth 78 billion British pounds, equivalent to 106 billion dollars.

This comes as a new indication of strengthening European defense ties amid increasing American pressure.

Reuters news agency quoted the office of the British Prime Minister as saying that Keir Starmer is expected to announce on Monday, at the European Political Community summit held in the Armenian capital Yerevan, that his country wishes to work with the European Union to support Ukraine in obtaining vital military equipment.

The loan, approved by the European Union last month, is set to cover two-thirds of Ukraine's needs over the next two years, with the largest portion of this amount allocated to military spending, as Kyiv defends itself against the four-year war waged by Russia against it.

The government said in a statement that the additional funding may also open opportunities for British companies to meet Ukraine's urgent needs, particularly in the defense sector.
