To Win Iowa Votes, Trump Announces Plans to Build 'Largest Steel Plant'

US President Donald Trump announced on Monday plans to build what he described as the largest steel plant in US history in Iowa, a state considered pivotal in the upcoming November midterm elections.

Trump aims to strengthen his Republican party's chances with this announcement of the $15 billion project, amid growing voter dissatisfaction with the cost of living and the continuation of the war with Iran.

Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump said: "We are pleased today to announce that Mesabi Metallics will build the largest steel plant in American history in the great state of Iowa."

The White House stated that the plant would cost $15 billion and use iron ore extracted from the company's new mine in Minnesota, which it claimed was the first mine opened in the United States in 50 years.

Trump won Iowa by a comfortable margin in the 2024 presidential election, but Republican Senate candidate Ashley Hinson currently trails her Democratic opponent in polls.

Republicans face the risk of losing control of one or both chambers of Congress, which could hinder Trump's legislative agenda and expose him to the possibility of facing impeachment proceedings for the third time.
