President Donald Trump has approved the execution by firing squad of Nidal Malik Hasan, the former Army psychiatrist responsible for the 2009 Fort Hood shooting that killed 13 people.

The Pentagon announced that US President Donald Trump approved the execution by firing squad of Nidal Malik Hasan, the former US Army psychiatrist who killed 13 people and injured 30 others in a shooting at Fort Hood base in Texas in 2009.
Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said the approval came based on a recommendation from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and that the sentence will be carried out by a US Army execution team.
Parnell added that the Secretary of the Army will determine the date and location of the execution, making this the first execution carried out by the US military since 1961.
