US President Donald Trump reportedly favors FIFA President Gianni Infantino as the next United Nations Secretary-General.

The New York Post reported that US President Donald Trump wishes for Gianni Infantino, the president of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), to become the next Secretary-General of the United Nations.
A source close to Trump told the New York Post that Trump believes Infantino "is respected by everyone around the world and recognizes that he has a unique ability to bring people together."
The next UN Secretary-General will be elected this year to succeed António Guterres, the Portuguese official who is set to step down at the end of December.
To secure the position, Infantino would need the support of the 15-member Security Council, where the five permanent members hold veto power, followed by approval from the General Assembly. It remains unclear whether Infantino is interested in assuming the role or how extensively Trump has discussed the matter with him.
