U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed early Monday that the United States intervened in the Middle East to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon and using it against Israel and possibly the United States and Europe, while also emphasizing the removal of all mines from the Strait of Hormuz.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump said, "Once we win the war, we will have near-total control over the Strait of Hormuz," adding: "Iran may be a nuisance, but we control the Strait of Hormuz and have removed all mines from it."
Regarding the justification for the war, Trump stated: "We had to intervene in the Middle East to prevent Iran from using a nuclear weapon against Israel, regional countries, and perhaps against us. If Iran had a nuclear weapon, the next target would be the United States or Europe or another location."
On reports of assassination attempts against him, Trump stressed he "does not live in fear of being shot," following his survival of previous assassination attempts, while acknowledging the risks inherent in the presidency.
He said: "It is a dangerous job. Only influential presidents face gunfire or assassination attempts," according to his claim.
On the topic of U.S. elections, Trump warned about the stakes involved in the midterm elections, while still expecting strong results for the Republicans.
He said: "I believe we will achieve good results. I will get involved in the campaign," comparing his approach to that of Vice President Kamala Harris, stating: "She hasn't really put in much effort in her campaign."
