UK Imposes New Sanctions on 13 Russian Entities, 6 Banks, and 6 Vessels

The United Kingdom imposed new sanctions on Thursday against Russian shipping firms, banks, and industrial enterprises as part of its latest effort to restrict financial flows to Moscow that could support the war in Ukraine, according to Reuters.

The British government added 13 newly designated entities under its domestic Russia sanctions regime. The measures include restrictions on six Russian banks, six vessels, and one ship management company headquartered in India.

Since Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, the UK has sanctioned more than 3,200 individuals, companies, and vessels under its Russia-related sanctions legislation. Many of those measures have specifically aimed at cutting off Russian oil revenues.

In July, the UK coordinated with the European Union to announce a sanctions package targeting 24 individuals and entities linked to Russian cyber networks and intelligence agencies. London accused them of conducting cyberattacks and disinformation operations intended to sow chaos across Europe.

That July package included senior figures from Russia’s military intelligence service, as part of broader efforts to counter escalating hybrid threats and security risks tied to the war in Ukraine.
