The UN reported 437 civilian deaths and 2,610 injuries in Ukraine in July — a 30% rise from June and 70% higher than July 2023 — the deadliest month since May 2022.
The United Nations announced on Thursday that civilian fatalities in Ukraine during July reached their highest level since the early months of Russia’s full-scale war, amid Moscow’s intensified long-range missile strikes.
According to the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, at least 437 civilians were killed and 2,610 others injured across the country in July — a 30% increase compared to June and a 70% rise over July 2023.
This death toll marks the highest monthly figure recorded since May 2022, following the war’s outbreak in late February.
Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine has entered its fifth year. In parallel, Kyiv has launched repeated waves of drone attacks targeting Moscow, with Russian authorities stating that some of these strikes resulted in civilian deaths and injuries.
Danielle Bell, Head of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, stated that this escalation is driven by two primary factors: first, long-range ballistic missiles and drones; second, short-range drones and glide bombs deployed along front-line areas.
