US Plans Official Trump Visit to India in Early 2027, Rubio Facilitates

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio revealed that the United States is coordinating an official visit by President Donald Trump to India scheduled for early 2027, aiming to strengthen strategic and economic ties between the two nations, according to Reuters.

Rubio explained that this initiative coincides with intensified joint efforts by Washington and New Delhi to conclude a comprehensive bilateral trade agreement.

The Secretary of State also indicated that he is likely to make a personal visit to India later this year to prepare diplomatic and economic matters ahead of President Trump's arrival.

Rubio stated that the United States hopes to finalize a trade deal with India, adding, "We are just a few steps away from completing the agreement, and the situation is very positive."

Last week, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Trump on the sidelines of the G7 summit in France, where Trump described their conversation as "very good."

India has been pressing the United States for months to arrange Trump's visit, potentially as part of a meeting including Japan and Australia.

Relations between India and the United States experienced fluctuations over the past year, particularly after the US strengthened ties with Pakistan, India's historic adversary. Washington imposed high tariffs on Indian goods to penalize New Delhi for purchasing Russian oil.

Rubio visited India last month in an effort to mend relations, but tensions resurfaced following the killing of three Indian sailors in attacks conducted by the US Navy on commercial ships in the Gulf.
