US sanctions 10 North Korean individuals and one entity
The US Treasury imposed new sanctions on ten North Korean individuals and one entity for illicit IT worker schemes funding weapons programs.

The United States Treasury Department announced new sanctions against North Korea on Wednesday, targeting ten individuals and a single organization. The measures were detailed in a notice published on the department’s official website.
Targeting illicit IT networks
According to the Treasury, these actions address schemes where North Korean information technology workers fraudulently secure employment with companies inside and outside the United States. Pyongyang seizes the majority of these workers’ wages to finance its weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile programs.
The specific targets include intermediaries and IT sector workers residing in both North Korea and Russia. Among the sanctioned entities is the "First Financial and Technical Development Center," which is linked to six of the individuals listed in the penalty package.
International coordination efforts
In a statement, the ministry noted that these networks infiltrate the global financial system, requiring a unified response to counter the threat. The department highlighted that Australia and the European Union also imposed North Korea-related sanctions earlier this month.
Diplomatic stagnation persists
This enforcement action occurs as President Donald Trump expresses interest in resuming talks with North Korea, while Pyongyang has shown minimal engagement with diplomacy aimed at curbing its nuclear program. Earlier this month, Trump downplayed the likelihood of another high-level meeting with Kim Jong Un in China next month.
Trump remains the only US president to have met a North Korean leader, having held an unprecedented series of summits with Kim in 2018 and 2019. Those diplomatic efforts collapsed due to US demands for North Korea to relinquish its nuclear arsenal.
Since then, Trump has repeatedly referred to North Korea as a "nuclear power." However, his administration continues to advocate for the country's denuclearization and has not formally recognized it as a state possessing nuclear weapons.
