Vance: Iran Agrees to Maximize Oil, Gas Flow Through Hormuz — But US Demands Verification

US Vice President JD Vance stated that Iran has notified the United States of its readiness to permit the highest possible volume of oil and gas transit through the Strait of Hormuz. He emphasized that the United States will not accept this commitment as credible until its implementation is confirmed through on-the-ground verification.

The Iranian Position and US Response

In an interview with Fox News, Vance observed that “the Iranians are suffering and want to end this matter.” He noted that the US administration is actively developing a plan to guarantee safe passage for vessels traversing the strait.

Vance clarified that the proposed plan includes an Iranian commitment to refrain from targeting commercial ships. “We are working on a plan for safe maritime passage, which entails Iran’s pledge not to fire upon commercial vessels,” he said.

Ongoing Tensions Despite Diplomatic Signals

Vance warned against treating the crisis as resolved. “We are still in the midst of the battle, and it is not over yet,” he cautioned.

He added that US officials expect oil and gas flows from the Gulf to remain at pre-conflict levels. “That is what the Iranians have told us—but we do not trust; we verify,” Vance said.
