A series of explosions resulting from explosive devices rang out near the hotel where French President Emmanuel Macron is staying in the Syrian capital Damascus, coinciding with the second day of his unprecedented official visit to Syria.

Two consecutive explosions occurred near the hotel where the French President is staying in Damascus, but Macron's convoy had left his residence shortly before the two explosions on its way to the presidential palace to hold talks with Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara. No information has been released so far about any casualties or the nature of the two explosions, and no party has claimed responsibility for them.

Macron is holding official talks today with Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara, in the first visit by a major Western head of state to Syria since the overthrow of the regime of former President Bashar al-Assad.
