Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi warned, during a phone call with his American counterpart Marco Rubio, that the Taiwan issue constitutes the "biggest point of risk" in Chinese-American relations.

An official summary of the call published by the Chinese Foreign Ministry indicated that Wang told Rubio that "the Taiwan issue concerns China's core interests," adding that the United States must "honor its commitments and make the right choices to open a new area for Chinese-American cooperation and make the necessary efforts for global peace."

China's "Xinhua" news agency quoted Wang as telling Rubio during the call that China and the United States must prepare "for important high-level communications."
