Meta is rolling out a new artificial intelligence tool designed to catch users who falsify their age, with a particular focus on teenagers. The system uses visual analysis to scan images and videos posted across platforms like Facebook and Instagram, estimating a user's real age by examining indicators such as height and bone structure. The company states the technology does not identify individuals, but only estimates their age bracket.

This visual analysis is not the only method employed. Meta combines these findings with other signals, including the type of content a user interacts with and comments they leave, to reach a more accurate assessment. If the system determines a user is a minor, their account is automatically switched to a "teen account" with stricter safety settings. Accounts belonging to users under 13 years old are blocked entirely, in line with company policy.

Expansion and Parental Controls

Meta is also working to expand this technology to more countries. The initiative includes giving parents additional tools to verify their children's ages and enhance family oversight.

This move by Meta reflects a growing industry trend of using artificial intelligence for user protection. However, it simultaneously opens up debate regarding privacy and the boundaries of analyzing personal data.
