Anthropic Enables Mobile Control of Claude Cowork AI

Anthropic has introduced a new feature allowing users to control Claude Cowork, its AI assistant for computer tasks, directly from their mobile devices. This update is available through the latest version of the Claude app on both Android and iOS platforms, where users will find a new Cowork tab in the sidebar.

While this update does not enable task automation on smartphones themselves, it provides a way to monitor Claude's activities on a connected computer remotely. The Cowork system has been enhanced to execute tasks in the background, removing the previous requirement for a continuous internet connection on the device running Claude. Users receive notifications on their phones when Claude requires permission to proceed with a task, ensuring that no action is taken without explicit approval. "Nothing ships until you've reviewed and approved it," Anthropic stated.

Future developments include integrating Cowork with Anthropic's chatbot interface, allowing users to interact with Claude and assign computer tasks from a unified platform. This integration will initially appear on Claude's web client and desktop application. Additionally, Anthropic plans to consolidate projects and artifacts—where projects organize chats and files by topic to optimize Claude's contextual understanding, and artifacts are small applications and games created by Claude. Despite recent improvements to artifact accessibility, user engagement with these features remains limited.

Access to this mobile control feature is currently exclusive to Max subscribers, with Anthropic intending to extend availability to other subscription plans in the upcoming weeks.
