OpenAI is targeting annualized revenues of $70 billion by the end of 2026. According to sources, the ChatGPT developer’s annualized revenue reached approximately $50 billion by the end of September. This metric estimates expected yearly sales based on performance over a shorter period.

These financial projections were presented to investors during discussions regarding the company’s latest fundraising round. In September, Bloomberg reported that OpenAI was negotiating to raise $30 billion or more at a pre-money valuation of $1.4 trillion.

Anthropic Competition Intensifies

The figures emerge amid an accelerating race among major artificial intelligence firms to boost revenue and expand commercial services. Anthropic recorded annualized revenues of $65 billion by the end of July, according to previous reports, placing it in direct competition with OpenAI.

Comparisons between the two companies remain complex due to differing methods for calculating annualized revenue, particularly regarding how cloud computing service sales are booked.

Technology Stocks Face Pressure

Reports concerning OpenAI’s revenue triggered reactions in financial markets, with technology stocks coming under pressure after some estimates suggested actual revenues might be lower than prior market expectations. The Nasdaq 100 index fell by approximately 1.4 percent, while the index of major chipmakers dropped about 3.4 percent during trading. This reflects investor sensitivity to AI valuations and future growth prospects.

IPO Plans Postponed

While continuing to attract massive investments, OpenAI has decided to postpone its initial public offering plans until at least next year, citing a current focus on developing AI safety standards. Conversely, Anthropic is expected to proceed with its stock listing in the coming months, potentially marking a significant milestone in the AI sector’s race toward capital markets.

UAE Fund Talks Underway

OpenAI is holding talks with several UAE investment funds to participate in the new financing round, including Abu Dhabi-based MGX. This move reflects growing regional investor interest in the artificial intelligence sector. Previously, in March, the company secured $122 billion in funding at a total valuation of $852 billion, inclusive of the new capital.
