Former Egyptian international defender Ahmed Hegazi has officially retired from football after nearly 17 years in the sport.

Ahmed Hegazi, the former Egyptian international defender, has declared his definitive retirement from professional football, expressing satisfaction with his achievements throughout his career.
On his official account on the platform "X," Hegazi announced the end of his playing career following the expiration of his contract with Saudi club Neom at the conclusion of last season. He stated, "Today I announce my retirement from football as a player, but not from my passion and love for the game."
He added, "Thank you to football for every moment, every challenge, and every memory we created together," continuing, "My journey on the field has ended, but my journey with football continues with the same passion, ambition, and determination."
Key Moments in Hegazi’s Career
The 35-year-old defender had a career spanning nearly 17 years, during which he played for prominent local and international clubs.
Hegazi began his career in the youth ranks of Ismaily Club and was promoted to their first team in 2012. He then pursued a professional stint in Italy with Fiorentina and Perugia, which was interrupted by an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
In 2015, he returned to Egypt to play for Al Ahly until 2017. Subsequently, he moved on loan to English club West Bromwich Albion, which later secured his contract permanently.
In 2020, Hegazi transferred to Saudi club Al-Ittihad, where he experienced a notable period of success. He concluded his playing career by joining Neom in 2024. Throughout his career, he won several prominent titles.
International Career Highlights
On the international stage, Hegazi represented Egypt in 88 matches, scoring two goals. His most significant contribution was leading the Egyptian defense during the 2018 tournament.
