Trump Confirms Non-Interference in Bolsonaro's Brazilian Presidency Claims
US President Donald Trump stated he will not intervene in Brazil's post-election turmoil, despite losing candidate Flavio Bolsonaro claiming to be the legitimate president.

US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he would stay out of the post-election turmoil in Brazil after defeated candidate Flavio Bolsonaro, who fled to the United States, declared himself the true leader of the country.
Responding to journalists who asked him to comment on Bolsonaro's recent statements, Trump said: "I will not make a comment on this matter... we will see," adding: "I will not interfere, although the elections were certainly very strange."
The loser of the Brazilian presidential election, Flavio Bolsonaro, insisted on Wednesday that he is the legitimate president of his country, following his flight to the United States.
Bolsonaro's flight, backed by Trump, threatens new turmoil in Brazil, where leftist incumbent President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won the second round of a fiercely contested presidential election.
In a statement addressed to "the Brazilian people and the international family" published on social media networks, the son of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro affirmed that he is "the true president of Brazil."
Shortly after the results were announced on Sunday, Bolsonaro, who is subject to several investigations in Brazil, confirmed that he would demand the annulment of the election despite electoral oversight confirming the integrity of the process.
Bolsonaro confirmed on Wednesday that he would lead the opposition from the United States hours after his arrival, having landed with his family at an airport in Florida following his escape from Brazil via Argentina and Ecuador.
He and his family arrived on US soil "in accordance with applicable laws and immigration procedures," according to country authorities.
The Brazilian senator and his family obtained entry visas from the US administration close to his father, Jair Bolsonaro.
Trump said shortly before their arrival, "I think they are very good people," indicating his approval of their entry into US territory, adding: "The elections were very strange and I found that terrible."
