Al-Ahli Saudi Pursues Portuguese Right-Back Nelson Semedo

Al-Ahli Saudi Club has initiated early steps to resolve the right-back position ahead of the upcoming season, targeting Portuguese international Nelson Semedo, currently playing for Turkish club Fenerbahçe, as their primary summer transfer option.

According to journalist Akram Konur via the "X" platform, Al-Ahli is preparing to start direct negotiations with Fenerbahçe in the coming days to persuade the Turkish club to release the 32-year-old Portuguese defender. This move aligns with the club's strategy to recruit players with significant experience in European and international football.

Konur added that Al-Ahli has arranged a financial offer estimated between 6 and 7 million euros to activate Semedo’s release clause. Semedo’s contract with Fenerbahçe extends until June 30, 2027, following his transfer in the summer of 2025. His current market value is approximately 6 million euros.

Turkish media outlets have reported that Semedo’s future will be decided after Fenerbahçe’s preparatory camp in Austria concludes, where head coach İsmail Kartal will determine whether the player will remain or depart.

Semedo’s career includes representing Portugal in the most recent FIFA World Cup, where he participated in four matches. Last season, he appeared in 40 games for Fenerbahçe across all competitions, scoring one goal and providing three assists, underscoring his status as a highly experienced European right-back.

Al-Ahli’s pursuit of Semedo clearly indicates their intention to address the defensive gap on the right flank by acquiring a player with international readiness, capable of making an immediate impact from the start of the season.
