Argentine forward Julián Álvarez has taken a sudden decision this Friday, weeks after the breakdown of his prospective move to FC Barcelona.

Agent Relationship Under Review

According to Spanish radio station Onda Cero, Álvarez is considering ending his professional relationship with agent Fernando Hidalgo — the same representative who has managed him since the start of his football career. Their collaboration has spanned club and national team milestones, but the failed Barcelona transfer has prompted Álvarez to reconsider that partnership.

Sporting outlet Mundo Deportivo reported that Álvarez has been contemplating separation from Hidalgo for some time. The speculation surrounding his future throughout the summer transfer window reportedly damaged his reputation in football circles. Álvarez believes he received poor advice regarding how to approach his potential departure from Atlético Madrid.

Criticism and New Contacts

Reports indicate both Álvarez and Atlético Madrid have strongly criticized Hidalgo’s conduct during the most recent transfer period. The 2022 World Cup winner has already reached out to Javier Pastore, former Argentina international and current agent of fellow Argentine player Enzo Fernández. Additional reports suggest growing tension between Atlético Madrid and Hidalgo.

Barcelona had pursued Álvarez aggressively, while Atlético Madrid maintained publicly that he was not for sale — despite receiving an offer valued at €100 million.
