Alvarez parts ways with agent Hidalgo after failed Barcelona move
Julian Alvarez ended his decade-long partnership with agent Hidalgo following a collapsed transfer to Barcelona and public comments about leaving Atletico Madrid.

Julian Alvarez has severed ties with his long-term representative, Hidalgo, in a decisive move aimed at repairing his standing within the Atletico Madrid hierarchy. The Argentine forward’s decision follows a turbulent summer marked by unresolved speculation regarding his future at the club.
End of a decade-long partnership
TyC Sports reported that the striker officially concluded his professional relationship with Hidalgo after his attempted transfer to Camp Nou fell through during the recent window. This separation ends a collaboration that began nearly ten years ago, spanning his development at River Plate and subsequent tenure at Manchester City.
The split is viewed as a strategic effort by Alvarez to alleviate internal friction and demonstrate renewed loyalty to Los Colchoneros. By removing the figure associated with the exit push, the player seeks to stabilize his position within the squad.
Comments triggered boardroom backlash
Tensions escalated when Alvarez publicly stated his desire to depart following Argentina’s victory over Austria at the 2026 World Cup. "The best thing for everyone is a transfer," he said, remarks that drew sharp criticism from club leadership.
Atletico officials adopted a hardline stance, refusing all approaches from Barcelona despite reports of a €100 million offer. The Spanish giants insisted on the full €500 million buyout clause, effectively halting negotiations and signaling their intent to retain the player.
Executive blames inner circle
Miguel Angel Gil Marin, the club’s chief executive, attributed the unrest to external influences rather than the athlete’s own wishes. In an August interview with Movistar, he stated: "There have been people responsible for misleading and confusing him."
Board members maintained that the entourage drove the narrative for an exit, creating visible strain between Alvarez and the fanbase while he remained in Madrid. The management’s focus shifted toward isolating the player from these outside pressures.
Seeking form under Simeone
Atletico resumes La Liga competition on Saturday against Alaves. Alvarez, who missed early-season training due to illness, has featured in four matches under Diego Simeone without recording a goal or assist across 85 league minutes.
The forward now prioritizes securing consistent playing time and restoring his peak physical condition to contribute effectively to the team’s domestic campaign.
