Barça to trigger Yamal's 2027 salary hike clause
Barcelona plans to activate a pre-agreed salary increase for Lamine Yamal in 2027, solidifying his status as the club's highest-paid player.

Spanish media reports indicate Barcelona intends to finalize the contract renewal situation for winger Lamine Yamal. According to Marca, the Catalan international currently holds the position of the club’s highest-paid player, despite strong competition from Rodri and Raphinha, who are expected to sign renewals shortly. Yamal is set to extend his lead in the wage rankings soon due to an agreed-upon salary increase for 2025, though its implementation will take several months rather than occurring immediately.
Contract details and earnings
Yamal renewed his agreement with Barcelona at the end of May 2025. The winger signed a deal valued at over €200 million, running through June 2031. This arrangement secured him a lucrative contract that established him as the top earner in the squad. The 19-year-old receives more than €20 million net annually, comprising fixed salary, performance-related bonuses, signing fees, and potential rewards for winning the Ballon d’Or.
Rodri and Raphinha wage battles
Rodri remains a significant rival in terms of compensation. Barcelona invested heavily in the Madrid-born midfielder last summer, elevating him among the highest earners with a fixed salary comparable to Yamal’s. Raphinha is also poised to join this elite group, awaiting a contract extension until 2030 that will substantially improve his financial terms. Other senior players commanding high wages include Frenkie de Jong, Jules Kounde, and Marc-Andre ter Stegen, following Robert Lewandowski’s departure from the club last summer.
Why the 2027 update matters
Yamal, considered the leading candidate for the Ballon d’Or, will soon rise further in Barcelona’s salary list, widening the gap between himself, Rodri, and Raphinha. This adjustment stems from a review and improvement clause embedded in his 2025 renewal. The club guaranteed the young star a pay raise two years later, effective in 2027. Barcelona recognizes the necessity of this increase, noting Yamal’s growing influence during this period, having played 159 matches for the Blaugrana. His role as the team’s primary star and most dynamic, decisive player dictates that his remuneration must reflect his standing.
Club officials, anticipating a total wage bill of €636 million for the current season, acknowledge the need to update the existing situation previously agreed upon. However, Yamal’s expectations regarding this review may become outdated by the time it applies, particularly if he wins the Ballon d’Or. Barcelona maintains a calm stance, aware they possess a pre-agreed plan to enhance his package. They intend to execute this strategy but state that the timing is "not appropriate" yet. Priority is given to settling other contracts, including those for Raphinha, Chavi Espart, and Marc Bernal. The matter remains pending, affecting their key asset whom they aim to keep happy and satisfied.
