Barcola admits Liverpool life differs from PSG tactical setup
French forward Bradley Barcola states he is still adapting to the English league's reduced tactical focus compared to his time at Paris Saint-Germain.

Bradley Barcola has acknowledged that his transition to Liverpool remains incomplete, describing the English Premier League as a distinct challenge compared to his previous environment. The French forward, acquired by the Reds for 125 million euros last summer, stated during the Telefoot programme that he is "still trying to adapt" because conditions are "completely different" from those in Paris.
Adapting to new tactical demands
Barcola highlighted a shift in playing style as a primary factor in his adjustment period. He noted that the English league relies less on tactical aspects than the competition he faced while at Paris Saint-Germain. The player also referenced his previous coach, who possessed very great tactical ability, contrasting this with his current situation where things are completely different.
These comments provide context for his performance metrics since joining Liverpool. While pace, trickery, and versatility were expected to transform the team's attack, these attributes have not yet materialized consistently in domestic play. His struggles in the Premier League remain visible, with relief coming only recently through European competition.
Champions League breakthrough
Barcola scored a hat-trick against LASK in the Champions League, marking his first goals in a Liverpool shirt. This performance stands in contrast to his domestic record. Since that match in Austria, his overall statistics show three goals and an assist across eight games. In the Premier League specifically, he has recorded one assist in five appearances, figures that fall short of supporters' expectations.
The newspaper Sport published Barcola’s remarks, which included reflections on his trophy haul in France. He admitted that winning titles constantly in Paris prevented him from fully appreciating their value at the time. Moving to another club allowed him to realize that the achievements at PSG were truly exceptional.
Reflecting on past success
At 24 years old, Barcola accepts that his perspective may have been skewed by his sustained success at Paris Saint-Germain. He stated that he did not necessarily realize what was being achieved because the team was winning all the time. This realization came only after leaving the French capital and facing the realities of a new league.
Liverpool paid 125 million euros to secure his services, but the investment has yet to yield the immediate impact anticipated by the club. The forward’s inability to settle suggests that the tactical differences between Ligue 1 and the Premier League continue to pose significant hurdles for his integration into the squad.
