Alex Scott, the 22-year-old midfielder, has become the focal point of transfer discussions as Bournemouth works to finalize his future amid growing interest from Manchester United and other Premier League clubs.

Scott’s Rising Profile and Contract Status

After a standout season that helped Bournemouth qualify for European competition for the first time in their 127-year history, Scott has attracted attention from top English clubs. Despite this, Bournemouth remains determined to retain the Guernsey-born player and has initiated talks for a contract extension that would include a release clause, mirroring the approach taken with Antoine Semenyo last year.

Scott’s current contract extends until 2028, but sources indicate he has rejected the latest proposals from Bournemouth, fueling speculation among potential buyers that a transfer could still be arranged. The club is keen to resolve the situation promptly to avoid uncertainty as the new Premier League season approaches.

Manchester United’s Transfer Strategy

Following unsuccessful attempts to acquire Elliot Anderson, Mateus Fernandes, and Aurélien Tchouaméni, Manchester United has identified Scott as their primary target to strengthen their midfield. The club is reportedly prepared to offer around £80 million to persuade Bournemouth to reconsider their position, with Michael Carrick approving the pursuit.

Scott is reportedly open to a move to Old Trafford but is also considering options from Manchester City and Arsenal, both of whom have expressed interest in the England under-21 international.

Competition from Premier League Rivals

Arsenal remains a strong contender, having had an initial offer declined by Bournemouth. Although the Gunners have shifted focus to Bruno Guimarães, they may revisit their interest if Newcastle United refuses to sell their captain. Manchester City has also made a recent direct approach to Bournemouth, with Pep Guardiola previously praising Scott as an “unbelievable player.”

Chelsea has conducted due diligence on Scott since March but has not made recent contact. However, reports suggest they may pursue him if Andrey Santos is sold, a scenario that gained traction after United secured a £50 million deal for Santos.

Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are also admirers, particularly Liverpool, which recently appointed Andoni Iraola, who played a key role in Scott’s development at Bournemouth. Nevertheless, both clubs are currently prioritizing other transfer targets.

Implications for Manchester United

The loss of Fernandes to Tottenham and Anderson to Manchester City has complicated Manchester United’s midfield reinforcement plans. Securing Scott would provide a more technical option to complement their existing squad, especially alongside recent signings like Ederson and Andrey Santos.

Bournemouth’s urgency to conclude Scott’s future means that Manchester United should expect a definitive response soon, with an offer in the region of £80 million or more likely required to complete the transfer.
