Bruno Fernandes credits Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for his transfer to Manchester United, expressing gratitude despite the upcoming Nations League clash.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer played a pivotal role in bringing Bruno Fernandes to Manchester United, according to the club’s captain. The Portuguese midfielder joined the Premier League side in January 2020 from Sporting CP and retains positive memories of working under the Norwegian manager.
Since that initial arrival, Fernandes has operated under several head coaches preceding the current incumbent, Michael Carrick. Despite these changes in leadership, Solskjaer remains significant in the player’s career narrative as the individual who facilitated his move to one of the world’s largest clubs.
Fernandes recently returned from international duty with Portugal, where he featured prominently during the UEFA Nations League window. The national team secured a narrow victory against Wales before defeating Norway while the United skipper was absent due to a minor physical issue.
Upon recovering, Fernandes participated in the match against Denmark, contributing two assists in a 4-2 win. He is scheduled to face Norway again on Sunday when Portugal hosts the return fixture, marking the conclusion of the international break.
In remarks shared via Beanyman Sports, Fernandes acknowledged Solskjaer’s importance in his development at Old Trafford. "Ole was a very important manager for me. He was the one who gave me a chance to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world," he stated.
The midfielder noted that he and Solskjaer have not discussed the upcoming tactical battle between their respective nations. "We speak once in a while about football but we haven’t had the chance to speak about this game," Fernandes explained. He added, "I hope I can send him a message at the end of the game that is good for me and not for him."
Solskjaer left his position in December 2021, yet Fernandes has maintained his status as a central figure within the squad over the subsequent decade. Successive managers Ralf Rangnick, Erik ten Hag, Ruben Amorim, and Carrick each implemented different strategies, but the Maia native remained a consistent starter.
Fernandes achieved peak performance last season, earning the Premier League Player of the Year award after setting a new record for assists in a single campaign with 21.
