Joe Cole has recommended Chelsea pursue Marcus Rashford following the forward's uncertain future after his loan at Barcelona.

Marcus Rashford is currently facing uncertainty about his club future after completing a loan spell at Barcelona, where he contributed 14 goals and 11 assists across all competitions. The 28-year-old forward played a key role in helping Barcelona secure both La Liga and the Supercopa de España titles.
Joe Cole, a former Chelsea player, has publicly suggested that Chelsea should consider signing Rashford. Speaking to SunSport, Cole emphasized Rashford’s qualities and potential fit for Chelsea, saying, “It’s just a matter of the wages and the valuation. Rashford ticks a lot of boxes, but you don’t want to spend a fortune on him - he’d do a good job for Chelsea. He needs to keep going, Marcus, he needs to keep his confidence up because he rebuilt himself at Barcelona, and there’s still another level for him to jump to. He’s someone Chelsea should inquire about, but it’ll depend on the deal.”
Barcelona’s decision not to exercise the purchase option in Rashford’s loan agreement has opened the door for other clubs to pursue the England international. Instead, Barcelona chose to acquire Anthony Gordon, leaving Rashford’s future away from Manchester United uncertain.
Cole also acknowledged the financial constraints Chelsea currently face. He noted that Chelsea’s new manager, Xabi Alonso, must be strategic in the transfer market. Cole stated, “Chelsea needs goals in the front three, an experienced centre-back, and then possibly a goalkeeper to push the goalkeepers that are already there. It’s hard for me to say who they should go for, because I’d love Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr and Antonio Rudiger. But Xabi Alonso needs to work out where he can get value for money, because I don’t think there’s a lot of money left at Chelsea to be honest with you. There’s been a lot of money wasted, so he may have to work with what he’s got, but if he has to work with what he’s got, then the Chelsea fans must stick with him and know that this isn’t the Chelsea of 10 years ago.”
Interest in Rashford is not limited to Chelsea. Arsenal are reportedly preparing a significant bid to add the forward to their squad as part of manager Mikel Arteta’s efforts to enhance attacking options. Rashford’s Premier League experience and versatility make him a valuable target for the Gunners.
Rashford’s extensive experience could fill a leadership gap in Chelsea’s squad, which currently lacks many senior players. Apart from Tosin Adarabioyo, Rashford would be among the most experienced members of the team. His Premier League record includes nearly 300 appearances, 89 goals, and 42 assists, positioning him as the most seasoned attacker in Chelsea’s lineup, surpassing even captain Reece James in league experience.
While Rashford is currently focused on representing England at the World Cup, speculation about his club future continues. The financial situation in Catalonia and new signings at Barcelona have influenced the club’s decision not to retain him permanently. Barcelona’s sporting director Deco recently commended Rashford’s professionalism, stating, “Marcus has helped us a lot because he came on loan, it is not easy to come on loan as a player like him because he is a top player. He helped us a lot because he had the responsibility to replace Raphinha, it is not easy but he did very well.” Despite this praise, Rashford’s path appears to be leading back to the Premier League, where Arsenal and potentially Chelsea are preparing to compete for his signature.
