Cristiano Ronaldo Reflects on World Cup Exit and International Future
Cristiano Ronaldo, after Portugal's World Cup exit, suggests his international career may continue despite confirming this was his last World Cup appearance.

Portugal was eliminated from the World Cup after a 1-0 defeat to Spain in the round of sixteen, with Cristiano Ronaldo among the players on the field.
Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot, both current Manchester United players, also participated in the match as Portugal faced elimination.
During the tournament, Ronaldo scored three goals, including his first-ever knockout stage goal against Croatia.
Managerial Changes Following Portugal’s Defeat
Following the loss, Roberto Martinez stepped down from his position as manager, prompting the Football Association of Portugal to begin searching for a new head coach.
In a post-match interview, Ronaldo, aged 41, indicated that this World Cup would be his last but remained noncommittal about retiring from international football altogether.
The forward is set to return to Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, where he aims to surpass 1,000 career goals, currently standing at 976.
Ronaldo’s Statements on Continuing with Portugal
According to an interview published by the Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, Ronaldo suggested his international career might continue beyond the World Cup.
He stated, “It’s true that it was my last World Cup, yes, but for the rest, I’ll have time to think, to talk with my family; there’s no need to make a hasty decision, life goes on.”
Despite his age, Ronaldo’s inclusion and starting position in the squad have faced criticism.
The publication noted, “Ronaldo has said goodbye to the World Cup, but not to the national team.”
Jorge Jesus, who previously managed Ronaldo at Al-Nassr, is reportedly the leading candidate to become Portugal’s new manager, which could influence Ronaldo’s decision to remain with the national team.
When asked about the speculation regarding Jorge Jesus, Ronaldo responded, “It’s not the time to talk about Jorge Jesus. It’s not my decision; the president will make it.”
