A Portuguese television presenter has claimed Cristiano Ronaldo’s family found out about his wedding to Georgina Rodriguez only 30 seconds before the ceremony began. The assertion adds new detail to ongoing speculation surrounding the secrecy of the event held on August 11.

The intimate ceremony took place at Ronaldo’s mansion in Quinta da Marinha, an exclusive area in Portugal. According to Metro, Jornal de Notícias published a copy of the couple’s official marriage certificate. That document confirmed the union was legally formalized with just four witnesses and the couple’s children in attendance.

Speaking on the TVI programme Dois, presenter Cristina Ferreira said: “It will cause a lot of problems because the family wasn’t present. And they shouldn’t even have known. Or if they did know, it was 30 seconds beforehand.”

Ferreira added: “I really hope that what we said here, which had to do with the impressions we get from what exists on social media, did not actually cause sadness in the family, that things were not as they apparently seem.”

Family absence and public reactions

Dolores Aveiro, Ronaldo’s mother, did not attend the wedding. She has not publicly addressed rumors of tension between herself and Rodriguez. On Instagram, however, Aveiro posted a heart emoji — interpreted by some as a gesture of support for the couple.

Ronaldo’s sister reportedly travelled to Madeira over the weekend to meet with family and friends. Her presence there coincided with the timing of the wedding but was separate from the ceremony itself.

Ronaldo and Rodriguez announced their marriage via Instagram after the event. Their decision to hold a private ceremony has prompted questions about whether Ronaldo’s immediate family was informed in advance — and, if so, how much notice they received.
