Cristiano Ronaldo, the captain of Portugal's national football team, delivered a message to his country’s supporters before departing for the United States to compete in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ronaldo, who has shattered numerous football records, is preparing for his sixth World Cup appearance at the age of 41, a milestone that marks an extraordinary chapter in his career.

Portugal is set to face the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uzbekistan—making its first World Cup appearance—and Colombia in Group 11 of the tournament.

The Portuguese team is scheduled to travel to the United States on Friday evening for the competition. Speaking to a large gathering of media representatives, Ronaldo openly shared his ambitions for the tournament.

Ronaldo's Outlook on Portugal's World Cup Prospects

Ronaldo expressed his enthusiasm by stating, "With pleasure, we know that the World Cup is a special tournament, as is the European Championship, and we go there with great hope."

When asked if Portugal is among the favorites to win the title, he replied, "We will only know in the end. It is a great generation, but there are factors beyond our control, such as the matches themselves. Winning or losing is what matters most. I believe this generation will bring a lot of joy to the Portuguese people."

Ronaldo Comments on His Physical Condition and Team Preparation

Responding to questions about his physical fitness, Ronaldo joked with journalists, "Physically? I am in excellent condition! Haven't you seen the recent matches? I think I am in my best shape."

He also confirmed that the team's preparations have been solid and revealed the key to their success: "It was exhausting because we worked hard. We achieved victories in some matches, and when things get tough, that is when we will see the true champions."

Ronaldo added, "I am very optimistic that things will go well. The important thing is to finish first in the group, and then we will take each match one by one, step by step, calmly, to build confidence and get into the rhythm of play."
