Andoni Iraola has indicated that determining the availability of Dominik Szoboszlai, Cody Gakpo, and Alexander Isak for Saturday’s match against Brentford remains premature. The three players were absent during Liverpool’s 6-3 Champions League victory over LASK on Wednesday due to separate physical issues.

Injury details for key players

Szoboszlai was sidelined by a hamstring problem, while Gakpo dealt with an ankle injury. Isak missed the fixture because of a thigh issue. When questioned about their potential return for the upcoming league game, Iraola emphasized the need for further assessment.

“It is early for us to say,” Iraola stated regarding the trio’s fitness. He noted that training sessions scheduled for Thursday would provide more clarity. “Obviously they were not ready for yesterday night. We have to wait and see, I think it is still really early but I will leave the chance open.”

Gravenberch suspension impact

Ryan Gravenberch is confirmed to miss the Brentford encounter following his red card in the previous weekend’s match against Manchester City. Iraola addressed how the squad intends to manage the absence of the midfielder amidst a congested schedule.

“In this period especially, we are basically playing every three days, almost less than three days. You need more players,” Iraola explained. He highlighted that adjustments made to the lineup during the LASK match were necessary due to these demands.

The manager outlined the continuous rotation required through the weekend and into the next fixture against Villarreal. “We’ll need to change again at the weekend, we will need to change again when we face Villarreal in another three days,” he said. “We need everyone. We need everyone in one moment or the other. Everyone has to be ready because we will probably need him.”
