Messi scores twice in Inter Miami's 4-0 win over DC United
Lionel Messi netted two goals as Inter Miami defeated DC United 4-0, extending his scoring streak following his international retirement.

Lionel Messi continued his dominant form with Inter Miami by scoring two goals in a decisive 4-0 victory against DC United. The match took place at the NU Stadium, marking a strong performance just days after the Argentine star’s emotional farewell to his national team.
Scoring streak continues
This latest display came only four days after Messi bid an impactful goodbye to the Argentina squad. His teammate Luis Suarez also contributed significantly to the win, securing a brace of his own during the first half. According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Messi has now accumulated 23 goals in the current Major League Soccer season, reinforcing his position atop the top scorers' list.
Suarez played a pivotal role in settling the contest early, finding the net twice thanks to assists from German Berterame. The Uruguayan striker’s efficiency in the opening period allowed Inter Miami to control the game flow effectively.
Return from international break
Following a large-scale farewell ceremony held for Messi on October 6 in Buenos Aires during a friendly against Benin, the player returned to the starting lineup for the clash with DC United. This occurred within the three-week international window, during which Messi participated in all of Inter Miami’s matches.
The Argentine icon traveled back home solely for the historic Tuesday fixture, where he recorded one goal and provided two assists. He then resumed his club duties, maintaining his high level of play upon returning to the United States.
Individual brilliance displayed
Including his final international appearance, Messi has scored in five consecutive matches. He opened the scoring against DC United early in the second half, capitalizing on a precise pass from Suarez inside the penalty area.
At the 60-minute mark, Messi completed his standout night with a spectacular goal. He executed an exceptional dribble past three defenders before entering the box and striking a powerful cross into the net, triggering widespread celebration among the fans at NU Stadium.
Messi celebrated the goal alongside his teammates, including Suarez, who had already secured his two first-half goals through Berterame’s service. Inter Miami currently sits second in the Eastern Conference standings with 49 points, trailing Nashville, who began their round with 60 points.
