Norway FA Pulls Haaland From Press Conference Over City Charges

The Norwegian Football Federation has altered its media plans for striker Erling Haaland following reports that Manchester City was found guilty of breaching English Premier League financial regulations. The decision came after English media outlets stated on Friday that the club had been convicted in 114 out of 115 charges related to financial rule violations, though final sanctions have not yet been determined.

Haaland Removed From Saturday Event

Norwegian broadcaster "tv2" reported that Haaland was originally scheduled to attend a press conference alongside the national team coach on Saturday evening. The event was intended to address the upcoming Sunday match against Portugal. An official invitation had already been distributed to media representatives before the schedule changed abruptly following the dissemination of news regarding City’s legal status.

Consequently, the federation decided to exclude Haaland from the session to protect him from potential inquiries concerning his club situation. The move aims to prevent the player from facing direct questions about the controversial verdict, which has generated significant attention across England and Europe.

Coach Solbakken To Handle Media Questions

Instead of Haaland, the press conference will feature head coach Stale Solbakken along with two other squad members: Fredrik Aursnes and Andreas Schjelderup. This adjustment ensures the team maintains its media obligations while shielding their primary forward from the fallout of the disciplinary proceedings.

Manchester City has confirmed it intends to appeal the ruling, noting that legal procedures remain active. However, the Norwegian federation opted against taking risks by placing their key attacker in a position where he might be compelled to answer questions he cannot currently resolve, thereby avoiding an uncomfortable barrage of inquiries about his employer’s future.
